I started to write about resilience in September 2023 to expand on my research interests focused resilience as an overarching concept of sustainability and development in international, multicultural business.
I wish to write texts, which are fact based, anchored in published research and at the same time are valuable for practitioners looking for tools and methods to improve their work and life.
You can read my story below.
My Story
Learning has always been my passion and drive. I love to learn, teach, and witness both myself and the people around me becoming a little better every day.
Throughout my 30-year corporate career, I constantly sought ways to develop and improve. I have managed large transformational projects across borders, led teams on three continents, and experienced successes and failures, laughter and tears, and the formation of both friendships and rivalries.
During this time, I built extensive knowledge in finance, international business, cultural differences and psychology. My early research on standardisation and cultural differences earned me a PhD in International Business.
I have always believed that one should pursue a passion outside of work - something which gives your brain a chance to reset, helps to gain a fresh perspective and come back stronger to solve the important work problems. I have tried many different activities, testing, experimenting, experiencing, and always in search of something special for me. Over time, horseback riding and aviation have become the interests closest to my heart. Sharing horseback riding with my son has allowed us to connect with nature, interact with strong, beautiful animals, and enjoy enriching experiences together. Flying an aircraft has been my dream since childhood, which I finally realized while living in Switzerland. I began by flying paragliders, making over a hundred mountain flights, before learning how to pilot an aircraft and obtaining my pilot license.
Aviation, my experiences with change at work, and discussions with people I’ve coached and mentored, have all steered my focus toward resilience. I understand resilience as the capacity of any system to manage change and continue to develop - a fundamental feature of any successful endeavour. Resilience thinking embraces learning, diversity and interconnections, which are the values so close to me and my personal journey that dedication of the second part of my career to this exciting area felt like the most natural choice. I dream that this part will last at least another 30 years - a testament to not just talking about resilience but living a truly resilient life.
Welcome on my website, and I invite you learn and develop with me.
